Last Update
18.01.2018

The most recent collection at the Botanical Garden are the Mire Plants. Established in 2006, this collection has 38 plant species and was funded by the Latvian Environmental Protection Fund.

The total area of the Mire Plant collection takes up 120m2 and is filled with specially prepared peat soil. Most of these plants are commonly found in transition mires or raised bogs. Eight species in this collection are rare and protected in Latvia, for example the dwarf Birch Betula nana, cross-leaved Heath Erica tetralix, Bog-myrtle Myrica gale and species from the orchid family. As of now, this is a one-of-a-kind exposition in Latvia.
