Just before Christmas, the beloved light festival returns to the University of Latvia Botanical Garden for its third edition! From December 20 until January, visitors of all ages are invited to immerse themselves in a colorful, light-filled, and music-infused evening walk. This year’s theme – Flower Tales – transforms the garden into a magical world of blossoms and light, bringing festive warmth and joy to the darkest time of the year.
The visual story of this year’s festival has been created in collaboration with renowned sand artist Guna Miķelsone, whose ephemeral sand landscapes will come alive with the plants of the Botanical Garden. Her artistry adds a poetic dimension to the experience, allowing visitors to drift into a dreamy atmosphere where flowers tell their own stories.
The festival features both brand-new and audience-favorite light installations, combining light, lasers, video projections, and multimedia effects. A key highlight is interactivity: each visitor will receive a flower magic wand, which responds to the stories and lets you influence the glowing objects. Playful lights, optimistic music, and interactive elements will make this an unforgettable experience for families and friends.
This year’s heroes are the plants themselves – from yews, pines, spruces, firs, and larches to climbing hydrangea, ginkgo, walnut trees, rhododendrons, lilacs, snowberries, brambles, desert roses, pansies, and many more. In the winter darkness, they will bloom in light and color, creating enchanting scenes throughout the garden.
Festival Hours:
Every evening from December 20 to January, 17:00–22:00 (last entry at 21:00), except December 24 and 31.
Visitors are encouraged to dress warmly and bring good cheer!
