One of the most spectacular events of the year is here – the blooming of azaleas. With each passing day, more and more flowers of various colors and shapes come into bloom, filling the Azalea House with vibrancy, a spring-like atmosphere, and a delicate fragrance. The blooming azaleas are already waiting for their visitors.

Azaleas are among the most popular ornamental plants thanks to their abundant flowering and their especially valuable blooming season. Depending on the variety, they bloom from October through May – a time when relatively few other plants are in flower. Azaleas are classified into early, mid-late, and late varieties, and under suitable conditions, a single shrub can bloom for several weeks.

Currently, visitors to the Azalea House can view approximately 140 different azalea cultivars. The collection includes early, mid-season, and late varieties, and the oldest azalea shrub is about 60 years old.

The azalea collection of the University of Latvia Botanical Garden is not only the largest in Latvia, but also the largest in Northern Europe. Among the shrubs currently in bloom, visitors can see varieties such as ‘Sārtais Dzintars,’ ‘Pink Dream,’ ‘Paul Schame,’ and many others.

The Azalea House is open to visitors every day from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

When visiting the Azalea House, we also invite you to stop by the Palm House, where you can explore a wide and diverse collection of exotic plants.
