The introduction and acclimatization of Magnolias in the Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia and in Latvia overall is managed since 1960ies. Latvia is one of the northernmost places where Magnolias can grow outdoors. The collection with 17 species and varieties both from Asia nad North America is the largest collection of Magnolias in Latvia. Two of species - Magnolia cylindrica and M. wilsonii are included in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
